Creating stickers in iOS
- Starting with iOS 17, you can long press on the subject of a photo to highlight it, then choose "Add Sticker" to turn that subject into a sticker
- Subjects pulled from Live Photos can be turned into animated stickers
- The custom stickers you create are accessible in the new stickers interface in the Messages app
Sticker packs have been supported in Messages for a while, iOS 17 specifically introduced the ability to easily create your own custom stickers from photos using the new subject isolation capabilities. This feature was not available in previous iOS versions.
How to create a sticker, step by step
- Open the apple photos app
- Navigate to the photo or image you want to turn into a sticker and open the photo by tapping it
- Press and hold your finger on the subject of the photo you want to make into a sticker. A cool visual effect will show you the subject being selected.
- In the menu that pops up, there will be options such as “copy” and “share.” You should also see an “add sticker” option here. ::If it doesn’t show up at first, try swiping left on the popup menu:: to scroll through the options.
If the “create sticker” button still doesn’t appear
- The app may be having trouble recognizing the subject of the photo. If it’s a newly taken picture, try waiting a few seconds and try again. Otherwise, it may not be able to work on this picture. Try another one.
- It only works with photos, screenshots, and Live Photos, not videos
- Your device might not support the feature
