About this site
Shloomth.com is an independent publication focused on technology, design & art. Each article represents something I personally find fascinating or resonant, and want to share my thoughts on.
I don't like posting on social media. I find that it's designed to distract me and suck me into the content vortex. I don't want that for myself, or my readers. I don't like the idea of my content being another reason for people to stay on facebook or whatever. So instead I humbly ask for your email address so I can send you updates there. I don't know for sure that ghost.org won't spam you, but I can assure you that I am in fact going to be paying for this, it's not free, so we are not the product. Which is why I will probably end up asking for tips & donations. Eventually.
I need an excuse to write
I want to write things. I want to write different types of things. Current events opinions, speculative tech articles, even short stories sometimes. But I need a place to put them so that people can see. Just writing this stuff for myself isn't cutting it for me anymore.
I'm not promising that it's going to be super consistent, but I think I've worked out a theme that captures what I want to do.
Tags
we have "tags" here. Each article will be tagged with its category (or categories) so you can more easily find the ones you're more interested in reading. There are four main categories: Decode, Innovate, Troubleshoot & Explore. There will be other tags to help you find topics you're interested in. You'll be able to see them at the top of every article.
Decode
This is for when I want to explain complex things in accessible terms. I think there's a lot of information out there that a lot of people either aren't aware of, or don't know how to get to. I want to help fix that.
We live in a world built out of information & computer code. Our lives are dictated by phones and computers. Some people find this new world intimidating, and I can understand why. But I don't. I find it fascinating and joyful. And I want to share that enthusiasm.
These articles will be one part news, one part figuring something out for myself for nearly the first time, and one part speculation. That means I'm going to say some things that end up being wrong sometimes, and when I find out that happened, I'll do a follow-up.
Innovate
This category is basically just tech news crushed up and distilled by me into its most important essence. A blend of quoting other articles and rewording it to explain what it means for less technological people. Focusing on why I think certain things are important.
Troubleshoot
For when I feel like writing guides on how to solve different problems.
Explore
Purely explorative, low-stakes interest based pieces. In other words, "everything else." Up to and including any fiction I feel like publishing here.
Site Philosophy
I believe the key to making sense of today's crazy, mixed-up world, and doing well in it, is to pull together ideas and skills from lots of different fields. Interdisciplinary thinking, you might say. When you apply knowledge across various areas, you can come up with better solutions that actually work in the real world. "Think outside the box," as they say - branch out, connect the dots between different subjects.
I want to provide engaging and accessible content that empowers readers to make sense of the world, as well as promoting the universally-applicable benefits of applying a growth mindset to everything.
More to come
this about page will continue to evolve as the site does. To make sure you don't miss any updates, sign up with a free email subscription. It's better than subscribing on social media 😄
